Perera earns champ car pole in Canada (AP)

French rookie Franck Perera earned his first Champ Car Atlantic Championship pole position in final qualifying for Sunday's race at Circuit Mont-Tremblant. Perera had the best lap at 109.175 mph in the No. 11 Condor Motorsports Mazda-Cosworth/Swift. The Frenchman is the only driver in the series to finish in the top five in all six of his starts in the 12-race championship.

LOUDON, N.H. - Just when you thought Toyota was placing four Nextel Cup teams into the field for the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday, Brian Vickers' qualifying time was disallowed because the ride height on the left front was an inch too low.

When Nextel Cup leader Jeff Gordon was docked 100 points this week for a technical infraction, the chief beneficiary was series runner-up Denny Hamlin. Instead of trailing Gordon by 271 points, Hamlin enters Sunday's race at New Hampshire International Speedway just 171 points behind the four-time Cup champion. But Hamlin suggested a more appropriate - and costly - penalty would have been to take away some of Gordon's bonus points.
